Louis XIV
BobN (56), DaveF (47), DanD (46) LynnF (43)
This group spent the entire evening playing Louis XIV. Bob was the experienced player at the table and won the game with a score of 56. Everyone else was bunched up around the mid-40s. Bob captured the early lead by finishing 3 missions in the first round. He ended up with a nice "machine" of missions that gave him 4 extra gold, and choice of even more influence and/or gold each turn. It worked well for him and he ended with 8 missions. Dave focused primarily on crests. He had the most crests in 3 categories and tied for most in 1 other. Dan and Lynn were at a disadvantage as neither had played the game before. Both made a few frustrating newbie mistakes, but managed to play competitively. Everyone enjoyed the game and would play again. The only potential frustration point is when people take significantly too long to take a turn. The game ran 3+ hours and can be shortened considerably with more experience and/or if the players are willing to not try to make the "perfect" move each time (since it's not going to happen anyway). Bob and Dan were most often guilty of that problem, although Dave had his moments.
Mississippi Queen

First time play for everyone. This is a game Jim picked up from KC (Havoc designer) while in Portland. Interesting, not overly complex riverboat racing game. Each player controls a paddle-wheeler and is racing down the Mississippi to be the first player dock at the end of the river. Along the way you must slow down to pick up 2 passengers. Light and quick, we all enjoyed the game. Leroy came from behind to pick up the win.
