The Great Space Race

Leroy (win), Kieron, Denise, Troy

Jim's Report

This sounds interesting to me although I didn't play since Kieron had enough players wanting to play and several others wanted to play Caylus. Sort of a cross between Formula De and RoboRally. During Caylus, I heard things like, "Sniper in the stands." Leroy was the winner with quite a lead.

Caylus

Dan (win), Jim, Jill, Jeff

Jim's Report

Jill, Dan and I had played Caylus before. Ran through the rules as a refresher for everyone and especially for Jeff since it was his first time playing. The game moved very slow at first because none of us was pushing the Provost out in front of the Bailiff so the Bailiff was only moving one space each turn. Jeff and I held early leads in the game but Dan soon surpassd both of us with solid use of the resource buildings and good timing of sending a worker to the castle. Dan's efficient castle builds enabled him to use the victory point favor track multiple times. I'd estimate he gained an additional 25+ points from this track. The latter part of the game moved more quickly with Jill and I, then Dan, pushing the Provost ahead so the Bailiff moved 2 spaces a turn rather than 1. In fact, Dan struggled with pushing the Provost ahead of the Bailiff on the last turn. We were tied for the lead and he wasn't sure if he could gain more points than I. Ultimately, he did move the Provost ahead so that it would be the last turn (otherwise there would've been 1 additional turn). Jill built the large blue building on this turn worth 25 points and Dan chose not to take a couple of his actions (purchasing a favor and building a wooden building) so that he could build 2 sections at the castle and prevent me from taking a favor at the castle. This was a smart move on his part as it gave him a 2 point edge to win the game.

Memoir '44

Denise, Kieron

Jim's Report

Kieron taught Denise to play M44 after The Great Space Race. She was interested in learning the system so she could decide whether to purchase M44 or wait for the fantasy-themed version called BattleLore. Not sure how this turned out or what scenario they played. Kieron may provide some details.
