Carcassonne - The Castle

Jim's Perspective

I picked this game up from Tanga a week or so ago. Played it once or twice with Logan. While we were waiting for Troy to arrive, I taught Jeff how to play. We played a few rounds until Troy was settled. Jeff was ahead in points when we stopped. This is a nice tile laying game that, as one would expect, is close at the end in scoring as it was designed by Knizia.

Jim's Perspective

Jeff and I played this last year with BobN one game night after everyone else had left. It plays quickly and involves a moderate amount of screwage in the middle and late game. Needless to say, Jeff got into a bit of a ruckus with me early in the game. We fought over a small area of the board. I reinforced and was able to maintain control of the area for the remainder of the game. With Jeff preoccupied on this problem, he was distracted for most of the game. This allowed Troy and I to spread out with rather large domains toward the end. The game ended by playing out the cards. I finished with 38 and Troy had 35 for a close finish. It's an interesting game that can be very nasty at times.
