This is not a good two or three player game. You really need four to make it a good game.

Antike

Players: Jeff [Green], Dave [Red], Dan [Black], Jim [Yellow], Thomas [Blue]

Jim & Jeff had played Antike once before, in a 3-player game several months back. The other 3 players were all new to the game. The 5-player turned out to be quite a bit different and certainly interesting. For the most part, everyone staked out their territories on the board, built up their troop levels and focused on resource production. It wasn't until the very late stages of the game that blood was spilled and violence broke out on the high seas. Thomas (Rainey), in a press for victory points, dropped in 3 Temples for a total of 6 within his country boarders. This move brought him to within 1 point of victory, but he set himself up to be a target by his neighbors. Jeff was just to his north, had no Temples and was in need of additional victory points. Thomas was within striking distance to grab a few points needed to win the game. [Note: By destroying an opponent's temple, generates one additional victory point.] Jeff unleashed his armada of boats and made a run at Thomas' weak points. He was able to destroy one temple, moving to within 1 point of victory, but didn't have enough left to crush a 2nd temple. Dave's turn came up next, but he really wasn't in a position to make a run on Dan who had a few temples to target and Jeff, to his south, had to real assets that would bring him to victory. Dave produced resources and the turn marker moved to Dan. Dan was really in a tight spot. He had a massive army, but he had Jim lurking to his east with an impressive armada of his own. Dan determined he couldn't overtake any of Jim's temples, so he spent his turn reposition troups in preparation for the assault wave surely to come from the mighty yellow knights of Ginn's army. The turn marker moved to Jim. Jim unleashed a torrent hell storm of fire on Dan. So furious that armies several countries away could see the smoke and hear the clashing of armor as the black titans of Dan's armies took on the yellow knights of Ginn's armies. It was a valiant fight by the black titans as they retreated into their castles and fought to the death, but in the end, the yellow knight's wave after wave of relentless mercinaries were too much. This allow Jim to crush two temples and win the game.

Note: Thomas Rainey, as a first time player, was next in the turn cycle after Jim. If Jim had not be able to overcome Dan's defenses, Thomas would have won. He had enough gold assets to purchase his 8th and final improvement which would have given him 1 more card and the last needed victory point to win the game!
