Jim's Summary

Dan pulled a first turn Government Land Grant and used it to build between Chicago and Detroit(?). After that, he was able to deliver a good and start generating income without issuing any shares. He was able to tap dance his way around money issues the entire game and avoided issuing any shares. It truly was well done. Leroy and I duked it out in the northeast. It always seems like I end up stirring the pot out east some. Mostly, 'cause it is so cheap to get started over there and you can't let one person have it all or they run away with the game. Jeff dabbled in the south. The tycoon card I had gave me points if I connected New York and Chicago so I worked my way west and was pretty edgy in the middle of the game as Dan started buying up some of the connections I wanted to complete my route, making it more expensive to hook those 2 cities up. About the time I was finishing that up, a big bounty (20 points or so) that would award the person who hooked up New York and Kansas City and built a Western Link. Of course, I had to try it! And likewise, everyone at the table had to try and stop me! It was costly but I did finish it and gained the big points. However, the whole thing was very draining financially and I issued many more shares than I normally do (13, I think). By that time, Dan's extremely well managed railroad was generating a nice amount of points every turn and he nosed ahead just as the game ended. Well done!
