Sep 12th, 2007
Host: Jim
Guests: DanD, JeffL, Bob, Dave, Ryan, Troy, Alain

Marvel Heroes

Alain, Ryan, Troy

Jim's Summary

We had a special guest from France this evening! Alain, a co-worker of mine from our manufacturing site in France, was in town this week. He enjoys board gaming so I invited him to our game night. He, Ryan and Troy played Marvel Heroes. Ryan taught the game. I don't know all the details but I heard that Alain won!

Antike

Jim, Dan, Jeff, Bob, Dave

Jim's Summary

The rest of us settled on Antike. Interestingly, almost this same group played Antike a few months ago at Dan's. This time we played the Orient side of the board which is the eastern Med (Greeks) over to the Middle East (Arabs, Persians) rather than the Roman empire (Europe, N Africa) side of the board. It was pretty tight in the early going. I pulled a technology and set of temples late in the game to gain points just before some other folks were going to do the same. I had my entire naval force on the board and was within striking distance of one of Dave's temples to win the game. Dave was in a really bad spot on the board. He was right in the middle and was sandwiched between the rest of us who started near an edge or corner of the board. It's a good game but I don't think we quite get it yet. On your turn, you move your marker around a wheel (rondel) that represents 8 actions you can take. You can move 1-3 spaces for free. More than that and you pay a resource for each space over 3. You take the action of the space you stop on. We play most of the game moving 3 or fewer spaces and rarely pay an extra resource or 2 to go a bit further. I think the more specialized strategies require you to pay an extra resource more often so you travel around the rondel faster and concentrate on the actions that accelerate your strategy.

Wits and Wagers

Game 1: Bob, Dave, Dan, Alain, Jim
Game 2: Dan, Jim, Alain, Dave, Bob

Jim's Summary

We finished the evening off with a couple games of Wits and Wagers. In the first game, Bob was the big winner and I finished with no cash at all. In the 2nd, Dan was the big winner and Bob finished with no cash at all!
