A regular game night...

There are far too many games I own that just don't hit the table often enough. And there are games that I'd buy if I only knew they'd see the light of day more often than GTF. To that end, I'm establishing a regular game night with a couple of fellow GTF'rs (Dan Davis & Jeff Lovelace specifically). Our aim is to meet at least once a month and play some of the more involved games that we don't usually get to play very often. To kick this initiative off, I would like to invite any other GTF'r that is also interested to join me at my home on Wednesday, April 13th, around 6:30pm to play some games.

What

The establishment of a regular gaming night.

Why

Play more games! Specifically, we're interested in developing a group that is interested in playing some of the more involved games that usually only hit the table during GTF.

When

The 2nd Wednesday of each month. Arrive between 6 and 7pm. Gaming will start around 6:30. We'll plan to finish around 10pm but the host is generally willing to go later if gamers want to continue or finish a game.

Who

All GTF'rs are welcome. The goal is to establish a monthly minimum of 4 to 6 gamers. More are welcome and on nights when we have 6+ gamers, we'll likely split into two or more tables.

Where

The gaming night will rotate between 4 homes - Jim Ginn, Dan Davis, Jeff Lovelace & Bob Nist - on the following schedule (thru the end of 2006):

Questions

Why a weeknight? We all have to work the next day!
=> One of the goals is to sustain a regular gaming night. A weekend night or afternoon session will be difficult to sustain during the warmer months when everyone wants to be outside and our kids are really active in sports.
=> The scheduled gaming night is there to get something going and keep it going. We also want to have the occasional weekend gaming session too.
How will you handle games that run longer than a couple of hours?
=> Some of that will be mitigated as players become more experienced with these games. A learning game of Puerto Rico might run near 3 hours but a group of experienced players can finish a game in 90 minutes.
=> Some games are simply long (e.g. War of the Ring) and although experience may reduce the time, it may still run 4 or more hours to finish a game. In these situations, we'll decide before the game how long we're willing to play. We may call the game after a certain amount of time or number of rounds. In these instances, the leader at the end of that time or round will be the winner. The group may also decide they want to complete the game but are unable to do so in one sitting. In this case, we'll leave the board set up or record the position of each player and arrange a time to finish the game - possibly the next scheduled session or another night or weekend that we can all agree on.
Can I invite somebody else?
=> Yes! If you think someone would enjoy or has experience playing these games, feel free to bring them along. One of the goals is to get gamers more experienced with games we don't get to play very often so we can play them better and more quickly in the future (like at GTF!). Let me know when we'll have new gamers present so that we can run a good set of games to introduce them to the hobby and not overwhelm them with something like Puerto Rico.
Food?
=> As always, it's personal preference. The hosts are open to ordering pizza and everyone that wants to share in the order contributing to the purchase.
=> With regard to beverages, while each host MAY choose to provide some sort of liquid refreshment (e.g. water ;-), you should plan to bring anything you specifically desire (e.g. fermented beverage of choice :-).
